Former Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Marshall Uwom, has said that those who think that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will not come back for a second term are dreaming.
Rt Hon. Uwom made this declaration in Otari community, Abua/Odual Local Government Area, while distributing cash to over a hundred persons in Ward 3 Abua /Odual as part of the Simplified Movement’s empowerment programme in the area.
He said Governor Fubara’s administration will last for eight years, noting that those thinking otherwise were dreaming and should better be awake.
Rt Hon. Uwom also urged the people of Abua/Odual to support Governor Fubara’s administration since he has given requisite attention to their welfare.
He said the people of Abua/Odual should be grateful to Governor Fubara for putting smiles on their faces, stressing that for the past eight years, the people of Abua/Odual were starved of projects and appointments.
The former state lawmaker said Governor Fubara had not only appointed Abua/Odual sons and daughters into positions of trust in his administration but was embarking on massive road construction across the local government area.
He said the Abua-Agbandele road and bridges project was ongoing while the resurfacing of the Ahoada-Abua road had commenced.
Rt Hon Uwom pointed out that an indigene of the area is currently the chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, adding that the people had no business with supporting politicians living in Abuja as they have nothing to contribute to their livelihoods.
The former Deputy Speaker, who was a one time Commissioner in the state and also the leader of the Simplified Movement in Abua/Odual LGA, said the empowerment programme was in line with the governor’s desire to put smiles on the faces of the people.
He said that, for the first time since the creation of Rivers State, Rivers money was being used for Rivers people, adding that Governor Fubara was ensuring that the people felt the impact of his administration.
Rt Hon Uwom said the programme, which is in different categories, will be taken round all the wards in the local government area.
The categories are: people with disabilities, the elderly, educational support for children and support for small businesses.
Also speaking on the occasion, Dr Imaoye Idam, who is the leader of the Simplified Movement in Abua/Odual Ward 3, described the programme as first of its kind in the area.
He said the people of Ward 3 and the rest of Abua/Odual will no longer follow leaders who are arrogant and who only visit the area during elections.
Dr Idam commended Rt Hon. Uwom for the programme, adding that it would go along way in alleviating the sufferings of the people.
Responding, the Coordinator of persons living with disabilities in Abua/Odual LGA, Emughedi Iginighion, thanked the former Deputy Speaker for the gesture and called on other politicians in the area to toe the line of Rt Hon. Uwom by assisting persons with disabilities in the area.
