Concerned stakeholders in Rivers State under the aegis of “Forum Of Members Of The Rivers State Executive Council Under Governor Wike Administration” has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to immediately end the illegal occupation of the 23 local government councils’ secretariats by police personnel in the State.
The group queried the continued illegal occupation of the secretariats by the police personnel after the Court of Appeal ruling on the tenure expiration of the former council chairmen and described it as unconstitutional and provocative, and urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately intervene on the matter.
A statement signed by Emeh Glory Emeh, Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, Emma Okah, Leloonu Nwibubasa, Damiete Harbert, Reason Onya, Nancy Nwakwo, Charles Nworgu, Tonye Oniyide-Briggs and Chinedu Tasie called on CSOs and other human rights organisations to join hands in this call and condemn the continued illegal occupation of the council secretariats by the police.
The group urged the caretaker committees of the 23 local government councils in the State to continue to deliver their mandates without any fear or intimidation and assured of their resolute support to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his administration in the State.
They used the opportunity to commend the state governor for the various development projects scattered across the 23 LGAs and urged him to continue in that zeal to advance the developmental frontiers of the State.
