Gov Restates Commitment To Empower Rivers People Through Agriculture
Governor Siminalaiyi Fubara has restated his administration’ s commitment to empower the people through agriculture.
Governor Fubara made the assertion during the flag-off of the 4th phase distribution of agricultural inputs and assets to Obio/ Akpor farmers.
The Governor was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ogolo
Mr. Morris Ogolo said the Rivers State government through the Ministry of Agriculture is resolute to change the narrative through equipping farmers to be productive.
He said the Commissioner for Agriculture, Victor Kii had been able to carryout directives of the Governor in that regard.
He noted Agriculture Commissioner had been working assidously to ensure Rivers State remains the best in agricultural revolution.
He said the Governor had demonstrated this through his genuine investment in the sector.
The Commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items in order to make the State the food hub of the nation.
The Agric Commissioner frowned seriously at anyone who may be tempted to sell the inputs.
He said the Ministry will monitor to ensure the purpose with which it was meant is achieved.
He admonished the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the State by putting the items into proper use to enable government invest more on agriculture.
The Agric Commissioner hinted that the intention of government was to ensure her people are taken out of poverty.
He said adequate use of the items will provide food on the tables of the beneficiaries.
Earlier, the Riv-cares Result Area 2 Fadama Project Coordinator, Sir Amadi Kingsley said the phase four flag-off and distribution of farm inputs was aimed at supporting the poor and vulnerable households in the State in the area of Agriculture.
Amadi said the programme launched in 2022 was geared towards alleviating the sufferings of the poor having been affected by the covid-19 pandemic.
He said Result Area 2 Fadama is saddled with the responsibility of assisting the vulnerable as well as the poor.
The Result Area, according to him, is saddled with rhe distribution of Agro inputs to framers, rehabilitation of feeder roads, distribution of Agricultural Assets for production and processing and upgrading of water sanitary condition and hygiene.
Riv-Cares Result Area 2 is positioned to sustain and secure food for Rivers State using agriculture.
Outlining increament in food security, safe functioning of food supply in the state along the agriculture value chain.
He specifically thanked the Rivers State Governor for his immense support to the actualisation of the exercise, describing him as an agriculture- friendly Governor.
Items distributed to farmers in four Obio/ Akpor communities include bags of fertilizers, poultry birds, fish tank, cake mixer, grinding machine, goat, net, wheelbaro, fish smoking machine, water pumping machine, among others.
The benefiting Obio/Akpor communities are Rumuolumeni, Oroazi, Rumuadaolu and School – To-Land.
