Ex-Commissioner Commends Fubara Over Obed-Whyte’s Appointment 

The immediate past Commissioner for Power in Rivers State, Hon. Damiete Herbert-Miller, has expressed deep appreciation to Governor Siminalayi Fubara for giving Degema Local Government Area (DELGA) a voice in the State Executive Council by the appointment and inauguration of Dr Roland Obed-Whyte as Commissioner for Special Projects.
Hon. Herbert-Miller made the remark during the reception ceremony organised by the DELGA chapter of the Simplified Movement in honour of the newly sworn in Commissioner for Special Projects, Dr Roland Obed-Whyte, in Port Harcourt.
The former commissioner, who is the Leader of the Simplified Movement in DELGA, reassured the governor of the continued support of the people of the LGA in all aspects of his administration.
He advised the newly sworn in commissioner to use his office to unite the people of DELGA, including the political leadership, in order to forge a good front for  the governor and the state at large.
Hon. Herbert-Miller noted that though many persons may have indicated interest for the office, it was imperative for everyone to respect the governor’s decision, sink their differences and work with him to achieve their collective goals.
Also speaking on the occasion which held at the residence of the former commissioner, Chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB), Alabo David Briggs, lauded Governor Siminalayi Fubara for remaining peaceful, focused, unwavering and still driving development down to the deepest parts of Rivers State, despite the political turbulence in the state.
The RSUBEB Chairman commended Governor Fubara for choosing men with credibility and proven track record of performance into positions of trust.
He particularly thanked the Rivers State Chief Executive for giving Dr Obed-Whyte the opportunity to render quality service to Rivers people, having been satisfied and convinced that he (commissioner) will deliver in his new role.
Alabo Briggs urged the new commissioner to work with a view to adding value to the governor’s aspirations for a new lease of life for Rivers people.
In the same vein, the former Acting Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (now Rivers State University), Professor Victor Omuaru, said he was satisfied with the appointment of a seasoned administrator who would make quality input in the building of a new Rivers State under the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, adding that he was certain that Dr  Obed-Whyte won’t betray the trust reposed in him.
As well, a former Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission, Sir Ngo Martyns-Yellowe, who is also the leader of the Simplified Movement in Degema Ward 1, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the governor and also called on each and everyone to support the state government at every point in time..
He emphasized that development is a collective task and urged the people of DELGA to play their own part smoothly while the government also does theirs.
Hon Jonny Braide, Caretaker Committee member of DELGA, also expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for Dr Obed-Whyte’s appointment and declared that DELGA people were fully ‘Simplified’, adding that the people could not do otherwise, especially with the commencement of work on the original Trans Kalabari Road.
Other dignitaries that attended the occasion included: Hon. Tonye Briggs-Oniyide ( former commissioner for Culture and Tourism), Hon. Solomon Eke (Commissioner for Power), Hon Chijioke Ihunwo ( CTC Chairman, Obio-Akpor LGA), Hon. Orolosema Amachree ( CTC Chairman, Asari Toru LGA).
Others were: Dr Tonte Davies ( Ag Administrator, Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority), Hon Chisom Gbali (Commissioner for Youth Development) among others.
