Commissioner Tasks Ministry On Support For Good Governance
Rivers State Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Hon. Arugu Ilamuskami has called on staff of the Ministry to discharge their duties with the interest of the state at heart in order to give a facelift particularly to the poor and vulnerable in the state.
This, he said would be in consonance with the Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s mandate of delivering good governance to the people of the state.
Ilamuskami made the call at the brief reception held in his honour, in his office in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Ilamuskami who noted that the ministry is saddled with the responsibility of lifting people from their low estate emphasised that the ministry is pivotal to the success of the present administration.
In his words “this ministry interfaces between the poor and the rich. It is saddled with the responsibility of lifting people from poverty to affordability. This ministry is very key to the progress and success of this administration”.
The Commissioner urged the staffers of the ministry to remain steadfast and dedicated to their duties saying “what you have done, people may not have seen it but your work is definitely appreciated by a lot of people”.
Ilamuskami assured that the ministry would function devoid of power tussle but with team work and shared experience.
“We are going to work as a team. A lot of people get into office and have a lot of troubles because of power tussle but in this place, we will not have any tussle. I can assure you about that. Your experience in the ministry and in the service will be brought to bear and we will compliment each other”, he stated.
Ilamuskami further promised that the welfare of staff would be cardinal in his administration and stressed the need for hard work to reposition not just the ministry but the state at large.
Earlier in her remark, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Justina Jumbo, lauded Governor Fubara for having the interest of the welfare of Rivers people at heart as well as his prompt response to issues concerning the ministry and the disadvantaged persons in the state.
She expressed hopes that the assumption of Ilamuskami as commissioner would further strengthen the works so far carried out by the Ministry.
