Rivers Crisis: Call FCT Minister To Order, Group Urges Tinubu
A political pressure group in Rivers State, the Peoples Democratic Party Grassroots Support Base of Nigeria (PDP-GSBN), has once again urged President Bola Tinubu to, as a matter of urgent importance, end the lingering political crisis in the state by calling the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, to order.
This is contained in a statement by the group shortly after her State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, recently.
Signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Joseph Opusunju and Secretary, Comrade Asitona Emine, the statement also called on international communities like the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Commonwealth and British government, among others, to quickly intervene with a view to resolving the crisis.
The group, which lamented the current political situation in the state, enjoined President Tinubu to rein in his FCT Minister and his allies, noting that the call was necessitated by what they termed as needless political conflict that is snowballing into anarchy in the state.
The organisation urged Chief Wike to see peace as the cornerstone for development, while admonishing the embattled lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly, as well as the erstwhile council chairmen loyal to him, to shun the promotion of crisis in the state.
The body, an advocate for peace, stability and development in Nigeria, maintained that the situation in Rivers State had regrettably regressed to where it was before the Presidential intervention last year, with the regrouping of the Martins Amaewhule-led defected House of Assembly members, purportedly ordering Governor Siminalayi Fubara to re- present the 2024 Appropriation Bill to them.
“As an independent support group to the PDP in the grassroots with the fear of God in Rivers State in particular and Nigeria in general, we hereby call on the former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike to listen to many people’s requests for cease-fire, and allow peace, stability and progress to thrive under the present dispensation for the sake of posterity”, they said.
