Group Applauds MOSOP Over Stance On Oil Production In Ogoniland

The Coalition of Supporters of Democracy and Good Governance, has commended the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People(MOSOP) for maintaining its stance on not allowing the resumption of oil and gas production in Ogoniland in Rivers State, and applauded the President of the body, Prof Wai Anda Ogosu for his rigid and uncompromising position on the matter despite deluge of pressures from different quarters.
The group, which made the commendation in a statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by its Coordinator and leader, Comrade Gashon Bob Achor, said MOSOP under the leadership of Prof Ogosu has continued to show the Ogoni people a sense of purpose and direction.
According to the group, the insistence by the MOSOP President that there would be no resumption of oil and gas production in Ogoniland until the complete clean-up of the polluted environment is highly commendable.
Achor also noted that the demand for the exoneration of the slain Ogoni 9, including renowned environmentalist, Kenule Saro-Wiwa is a right step in the right direction, which is supposed to be acceded to and granted by the Federal Government.
This, when granted, he said is capable of bringing the Ogoni people back to the discussion table for the resumption of oil and gas production in the area.
The leader of the group, therefore, called on the Ogoni people to take advantage of the quality leadership Prof Ogosu is providing to unite against those he described as environmental polluters and political buccaneers who do not have the interest of the people at heart.
Achor also indicated that the MOSOP President, who is a Professor of Environment has always advocated against further degradation of the Ogoni environment and that of the Niger Delta, and enjoined the people to continue to support and rally round him.
He said Prof Ogosu has always called on political gladiators in Rivers State to sheathe their swords in order to pave way for the development of the State, and commended him for his conciliatory and peaceful disposition.
