Customs Impounds 150 Cartons Of Bullet Proof Jackets, Others

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, Lagos State, has impounded 150  cartons of bulletproof jackets, Cannabis sativa, cartons of expired  drugs and other contrabands from smugglers.
NCS gave the description of the intercepted items as 150 cartons  of bulletproof jackets worth N1.687 billion, 989kg of cannabis sativa, and 5,229 cartons of expired drugs.
The NCS Federal Operations Unit, Zone A Ikeja valued the total seized contraband goods to N3.6 billion.
Other seized items include premium motor spirit, foreign parboiled rice, used vehicles, sugar, and poultry products.
Announcing the seizures to newsmen in Ikeja, Customs Area Controller, Kola Oladeji, noted  that the bulletproof jackets were intercepted along the Ijebu Ode-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State from smugglers.
He emphasised that individual importation of military wares is prohibited under Schedule 4 of the Customs Common External Tariff (CET), and end-user certificates from the Office of the National Security Adviser are required for controlled items.
Oladeji further said the accumulative duty paid value of the seized goods amounts to N3.6 billion, with interceptions taking place at various times and locations within the South-Western States.
Nigeria customs Service did not state if any arrest were made during the operations.
