Opposition Behind Khana Protest -Yobana
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Khana Local Government Council, Amb. Marvin Yobana, has accused the opposition of being the masterminds behind Wednesday’s protest in the local government.
Amb. Yobana, who made the allegation in a statement by his media team on Wednesday, said the protest by a handful of disgruntled youths over who becomes the next chairman of the local government was sponsored by anti-government elements and self-seeking politicians who do not mean well for the Council.
The CTC chairman, in a statement by his media team, on Wednesday, said that the choice of who becomes the next Chairman of the Council rests on the people, adding that he does not have a hand in it.
Amb. Yobana also denied marginalising any section of the local government area, let alone intimidating anybody with security agencies.
He, therefore, called the people of Khana Local Government Area to be wary of self-seeking politicians who may want to cause problems in the area.
The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a scanty sponsored protest by a few youths claiming to be from Khana Local Government Area.
“Ordinarily as a Council, we are not supposed to respond to these unknown youths, but for the sake of clarifying the public.
“It is a known fact that the protest was masterminded by anti-government elements, political jobbers and self seeking politicians who do not mean well for the growth and development of Khana people and the entire LGA.
“The choice of who becomes the next Chairman of the Council lies on the people, and the CTC Chairman, Amb. Marvin Yobana, has no hand in it.
“It is also worthy of note that the CTC Chairman runs an open door policy and has never intimidated nor marginalized any youth of Khana LGA, talk less of using security agencies against them”
The Council boss, therefore, called on the general public to discountenance the malicious falsehood orchestrated by the sponsored protest.
He also urged the youths in the local government area to be peaceful, law abiding and support the developmental vision of the State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
“We call on the genuine youths of Khana to be peaceful, law abiding and support the State Government led by the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, in order to deliver dividends of democracy to the good people of Khana LGA.
“We also advise the general public to discountenance the malicious falsehood orchestrated by this sponsored protest”, he said.
