Top Civil Servants Face Threat In Oyo Over Refusal To Divulge Information
Top civil servants who served in the late Governor Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi administration in Oyo State are under serious threat to divulge details of the road construction contracts awarded during the regime to the present administration or face severe consequences.
One of such state officials (name withheld) who made this revelation, pointed out that the threat followed the State Government’s plan to extract information from top civil servants that worked closely with the late governor with a view to exposing shady deals perpetrated by the Ajimobi led administration.
Our source revealed further that the opposition party in the State, the All Progressive Congress (APC), viewed such move as an attempt by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the State to smear its image and jeopardize its political prospects, particularly in the 2027 elections.
The visibly perturbed source disclosed that the threat to his life came immediately after the Oyo State Anti Corruption Agency (OYSACA) summoned all top officials that worked with the Ajimobi led APC administration and asked them to furnish the body with documents, concerning certain road contracts awarded between 2011 and 2019.
According to the source who pleaded anonymity, the situation has thrown him and his household into panic and psychological trauma, as he faces the dilemma of heeding to official call by the State anti-graft agency or resign his position, to save his life and family.
Recall that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, immediately after assuming power in 2019 stopped, reviewed and re-awarded many contracts given out by his predecessor, claiming scandalous inflation of the costs while stating that most of the contracts never followed due process.
The opposition APC, which is the ruling party at the federal level thereafter discreetly moved to truncate further steps aimed at investigating activities of the last administration, in a desperate plan to counter what it viewed as sinister strategy to destroy APC politically.
“As it is now, I am at the mercy of numerous callers who on a daily basis threaten to kill me and my colleagues. It’s not an ideal situation that my family and I are being confronted with at present”, the source lamented.
