Association, NDLEA To Fight Drugs Abuse In A’Ibom

The National Association of Nigerian Drug Monitoring (NANDRUM) in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforecement Agency (NDLEA) have united in fighting against drug abuse and trafficking in Akwa Ibom State.
Chairman of NANDRUM, Akwa Ibom State, Elder Victor Archibong James, who disclosed this during the Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Drugs and Narcotics, National Assembly Official Inauguration of National Assembly of Nigerian Drug Monitoring in Uyo, said the fight will start from the rural areas across the state.
He said with this development, they would not relent to make sure the government and law Enforcement agencies assist to eradicate drug abuse from the state.
According to him, they would embark on sensitization and awareness programme, especially in the rural areas of the state, and create awareness of the consequences of drug abuse and trafficking in other to make the combat a success.
“We shall organize campaigns and seminars in schools, churches, markets, motor park, town and villages to properly educate our people both young and old on the subject matter”, he said.
The State Director, National Orientation Agency, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, said they would use their agency without relenting, using their robust structures at the grassroots to partner with NANDRUM in sensitizing the people on the menace of drug abuse.
“The menace of drug substance abuse and trafficking has significantly affected our national security, social life, education, health and economic development with tremendous negative consequences in the society, and we are particularly delighted by your effort in curbing it”, he said.
Earlier, Ambassador of the Joint Committee on Drugs and Narcotics of the National Assembly, Dr Christabel Regan Okoye, said, “Drug Abuse and Illicit drug trafficking is a global issue, one agency or only the Federal Government cannot comfortably fight this virus alone, and NANDRUM, which was established to work with NDLEA and other Federal Government stakeholders on drug issues, would need to do the needful”.
