PH Set To Hold International Marathon Race, ‘Morrow
Tomorrow Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State will be at the centre stage in Nigeria and beyond as it will hold the First Rivers State International Marathon Race.
The event was designed to develop sports, particularly the distance race and promote sports tourism which will in turn boost economic activities in the State.
According to Sammy Wejinya who spoke to Tidesports on Wednesday, on behalf of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee of the event, preparations are in top gear to host the biggest international marathon in Nigeria tomorrow, saying that their intention was to make the event a reference point in Africa and the world.
He said a healthy mix of domestically based and foreign athletes is expected to be in attendance and a fusion of a beautiful carnival that will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the State. “The preparations are going well. We are prepared to make this the biggest international marathon in Nigeria. In the coming years, we also intend to raise our stock and make this the talking and reference point in Africa and the world”, Wejinya said.
He further revealed that the event would be an annual one, as take off point will be at Sharks Football Club Stadium and ends at Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
In the same vein, the principal partner of Arch Rapheal Limited, the organisers of the marathon, Femi Abegunde said the event was fully certified.
