Cross Carpeting Tantamounts To Electoral Robbery -PAC
The National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Alhaji Yusuf Dantille, says cross carpeting from one political party to another without justification is tantamount to political robbery, adding that those who cross carpeted from their parties while holding elective positions should automatically lose their seats.
Alhaji Dantille also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a level playing field for all political parties in the forthcoming Edo and Ondo States’ governorship elections.
Addressing members at the IPAC South South leadership conference organised by the Rivers State chapter of the body in Port Harcourt, the National Chairman also urged voters in the two states to vote for credible candidates during the elections.
While describing IPAC as a beacon of hope for fostering democracy, the National Chairman said time had come for Nigerians to insist on transparent elections in the country.
Alhaji Dantille also stated IPAC’s stand on local government autonomy, insisting that INEC should be empowered to conduct all elections in the county.
He said his group has already inaugurated an electoral act amendment committee, noting that the committee’s report would soon be submitted to the National Assembly.
In his welcome address, the Rivers State chairman of IPAC, Sensei Osaro, said IPAC under his leadership had enjoyed a harmonious relationship with the state government.
“We find in His Excellency, humane and pragmatic leadership qualities that have defined democratic governance and inter-party relationships”, Osaro said, adding that IPAC under his leadership had been rejuvenated.
He also said that the sterling performance of Governor Siminalaye Fubara within one year in office has made IPAC to pass a vote of confidence on the governor.
“The achievements are too glaring for everyone to see”, he said.
