Centre Collaborates NDLEA Against Drug Abuse

A body, “The Havids Centre for Environment and Development”, has stated its resolve to collaborate with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Rivers State in the fight against drug abuse.
The Executive Director of the Centre, Mr. Harry MacMorrison, who stated this, Wednesday, during a courtesy visit to the office of the NDLEA in Port Harcourt, said the centre is committed to youth empowerment.
Describing the effort as “a landmark move towards addressing the pressing issue of drug abuse among youth”, Macmorrison said the body is committed “to youth empowerment and community development through various initiatives such as the Practical Leadership Awards for Youths (PLAY), and Scholar Diplomats”.
Noting the critical role of collaboration in this direction, which also involves the Rotary Club of South West USA, the Executive Director emphasized on the need for joint efforts in combating drug abuse and trafficking, as is being sought with the NDLEA.
“The Havids Centre for Environment and Development’s multidisciplinary approach, focusing on environmental conservation, sustainable development, and youth entrepreneurship, aligns with NDLEA’s mission to curb drug abuse and trafficking.
“By engaging youth in positive activities and providing them with opportunities for growth and development, both organisations aim to steer them away from the dangers of substance abuse”, he stated.
In his address, the Commander of NDLEA, Rivers State Command, Ahmed Mamuda, expressed appreciation for The Havids Centre for Environment and Development’s efforts and pledged support for their youth programmes.
He emphasised the importance of partnership and collective action in addressing the complex challenges of drug abuse.
“This collaboration between The Havids Centre and NDLEA marks a significant step forward in the fight against drug abuse, signaling a united front in safeguarding the well-being and future of youth in Rivers State”, he said.
Also among the entourage of the Centre during the visit was its Manager, Administration, Blessing Johnarry.
