Some political stakeholders in Rivers State have criticised the Rivers State House of Assembly for its purported impeachment plot against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
They also called on the leadership of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Rivers State to make its position known over the political crisis rocking the State.
The stakeholders, including the former Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Andoni Local Government Area, Elder Blessing Tiko, and the Chairman of Alliance Party (AP) in Rivers State, Chief Mike Oyakhire, said the Assembly presently lacks the constitutional powers to impeach the Governor since their position is at present a subject of litigation.
According to Elder Tiko, the activities of the Assembly as constituted by the embattled 27 members were illegal, adding that they should rather wait for the court to determine their positions.
On his part, Chief Oyakhire said his party was against any move to impeach the governor
Chief Oyakhire also called on the leadership of IPAC in the State to support the administration of Governor Fubara as well as make its stand known in the political crisis rocking the State.
He said the time had come for the leadership of the various opposition political parties in the state to make their stand known, adding that Governor Fubara needs the support of not only his party to succeed.
“IPAC should come out with a clear position on the crisis rocking the State
“As for my party, we are supporting Governor Siminalaye Fubara. “That is the position of the Alliance Party”, he said.
Oyakhire also said that the Rivers State House of Assembly acted in bad faith when it threatened to impeach Governor Fubara, adding that as at the moment, the position of the 27 lawmakers is not yet known.
“Everything they are doing there is illegal. They should first of all allow the court to settle their matter before threatening impeachment. More so, Rivers people will not take it lightly with any one threatening impeachment against the Governor”, he said.
The Alliance Party Chairman said Governor Fubara, by his policies and programmes, has endeared himself to the people of Rivers state
He also commended the governor for his economic policies such as the ongoing Port Harcourt International Auto Spare Parts Market and the 20,000 housing units, nothing that, when completed, the projects will improve the economy of the state.
Oyakhire urged all and sundry to support Governor Fubara to enable him actualize his developmental agenda for the state
