Sekibo Endorses Odili’s Declaration On Rivers Political Leadership
One time Minister of Transport, Dr Abiye Sekibo, has reaffirmed Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the political leader of Rivers State following the declaration by former Governor Peter Odili.
It would be recalled that former Governor Odili had during the commissioning of a health centre at Ndoni, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Government Area, referred to Governor Fubara as the political leader of the State.
The declaration had since discomfited politicians in the camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking during an interview with newsmen at Okrika in Okrika Local Government Area, Dr Sekibo said Odili was right in referring to Governor Fubara as the political leader of the state.
In his words: “Peoples Democratic Party bylaws, our constitution recognizes, the Governor of the state as the leader of the party and for Rivers people the Governor of the state is the political leader of the state. And Sim Fubara, who is today the Governor of Rivers state, is the political leader of Rivers State.
“What Odili, our father, has said is final and there is nobody anywhere in the state who can controvert that.”
On the emergence of two state executive council lists of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) currently circulating on the social media, Dr Sekibo blamed it on the handiwork of detractors.
“Those who are used to fishing in troubled waters want to muddle the waters, but where the Governor stands is where all of us stand.
“Any list the Governor said is the authentic list, is the authentic list.
Any list the Governor said is not the authentic list, is not the authentic list”, he said.
Dr Sekibo said nobody should take advantage of their privileged position to cause a breakdown of law and order in the state, adding that any such attempt will be resisted by Rivers people.
