IAUE To Host Mass Comm, Linguistics In Department
The Department of English and Communication Art of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) is billed to host two programmes.
Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, disclosed this recently while declaring open the first ever International Conference of the Department with the theme, “Re-engineering the Nigerian Environment: Imperatives for Language, Literature and Communication Scholars”, at the Postgraduate Hall of the University.
Represented by the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Joseph Kinanee, the Acting Vice Chancellor informed that officials from the National Universities Commission (NUC) are expected soon on a resource verification exercise for the two programmes, namely Mass Communication and Linguistics.
He promised that whatever is necessary to put the programmes in place would be provided within the limits of the resources of the university.
Prof. Onuchuku congratulated the Department for the choice of the theme, which he described as very topical and wished them fruitful deliberations.
Also speaking, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Kingdom Eke Orji, and the Associate Dean and Convener, Professor Ibiere Ken-Maduako, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for the moral and financial support towards the successful hosting of the conference as well as all other academic conferences in the University.
They stressed that he has been supportive and that many Departments and Faculties can attest to his friendly disposition towards all academic activities within the University.
Commenting on the theme of the conference, they highlighted that the implication is that something faulty was detected and therefore a need to make the device undergo certain processes of change for the improvement of the device, the design, plan or system.
They wished participants effective brainstorming sessions, functional networks and strong collaborations.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and Director, Quality Assurance, Professor Alafuro Epelle, while thanking the organisers for the opportunity, observed that the impressive turn out shows that participants are interested in knowledge explosion and hoped that they take home valuable lessons from the teachings of the conference.
He encouraged them to study hard, pass their exams and graduate on record time as they would someday be the ones to take over from their present lecturers.
In his address, the Head of the Department of English and Communication Art, Dr Cajetan Onugha, expressed appreciation to the staff friendly and hardworking Acting Vice Chancellor for providing a conducive environment for the first international conference of the Department.
He also thanked the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Orji, for his support and willingness to show good leadership skills and true brotherhood.
The event featured physical and virtual presentations from scholars within and outside the country, as well as awards to deserving recipients for greater heights of excellence and achievements.
In a vote of thanks, Dr Scholarstica Amadi appreciated everyone who made the event a huge success.
