Pirates Highjack Cargo Ship Off Somalia
Renowned maritime security firm, Ambrey, says 20 suspected pirates boarded a cargo ship off the coast of Somalia and took control of the ship.
The vessel is the latest to be targeted following a resurgence of attacks by Somali pirates in recent months.
Ambrey said the ship was a Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier heading from Mozambique to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The security outfit said there were conflicting reports about the whereabouts of the crew of the boarded ship.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the maritime security outfit.
The incident, the statement said, happened about 600 nautical miles East of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency also flagged the boarding incident and advised vessels to transit with caution.
Somali pirates had been dormant until late last year when they started attacking ships again.
