The Rivers State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Engr Charles Amadi, has sued for harmonious and peaceful coexistence between oil companies and their host communities.
Amadi said this in his office in Port Harcourt during a meeting between TotalEnergies and representatives of Image family of Obarama community of Ahoada West Local Government Area .
He stressed the need for the company and its host family to work for their common good.
The Commissioner commended the Image family for taking the right step by petitioning his office for redress and advised TotalEnergies to go back to those issues raised in the petition especially as it concernes all the entitlements of the family as contained in the agreements.
He also charged the company to ensure that It consults with the people before carrying out any operations in their land.
“If you want to operate in their land, ensure you consult , discuss with them, the land owners, find out what they want to enable you address it adequately. “Whatever you give the larger families, ensure you also give to the Images as well, since you have recognised them as your landlord,” he said.
Amadi also charged the company to adopt a holistic approach in the sharing of gifts adding that anything meant for them should be given them directly.”Ensure you communicate directly for peace to reign. Where it is Christmas gifts of rice or any other packages, give to them directly not through communities,” he said.
In their responses, representatives of TotalEnergies and the Image family thanked the Commissioner for intervening in the crisis.
The representative of TotalEnergies particularly also promised to ensure that whatever that is due to the Image family is given to them.
