RSG Restates Commitment To Promote Sports …Set To Host International Marathon

Rivers State Government has reiterated its commitment to make the State a new hub of sports in Nigeria, as the Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara vision is to ensure that sporting activities thrive in the State.
The State Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Christopher Green said this on Wednesday in a press conference to inform sports journalists about the forthcoming First Rivers State International Marathon Race scheduled to hold in May this year.
He explained that the state government partnering Arch Rapheal Nigeria Limited, a corporate organisation known for promoting and organising sports events, is set to organise 42km and 5km marathon race for both professionals and those who want it for leisure and physical fitness.
“It is the vision of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubura to make the State a new hub of sports in Nigeria. It is his vision to ensure that sporting activities thrive in the State.
“And of course, as you know, the state government wants to open up every human endeavours for the betterment of Rivers sons and daughters and all those that reside in the State,” Green said.
According to him, the event will be an annual event, adding that this is the first time the State will hold an international marathon race tagged “Rivers State International Marathon”
“You know, the idle mind is the devil’s workshop. When youths are meaningfully engaged, they will not be thinking something negative. So, the Rivers International Marathon will reduce crime rate drastically. This event will promote and boost local businesses in the State,” he said.
Also speaking, the principal partner of Arch Rapheal Limited, Femi Abegunde said the event was fully certified.
