Akabi Expresses Joy Over Winning Gold In Swimming Championship
A gold medalist in the just concluded 11th edition of the Chief of Naval Staff National Swimming Championship, Demolade Akabi, has expressed joy for winning a gold medal in 100 butterfly category.
The Okoni swimming club member of Lagos State stated that the victory was as a result of hard work, saying that she has been training hard in preparation for the tournament.
Akabi said this on Saturday in a chat with sports journalists shortly after receiving her gold medal for the 11th edition of the Chief of Naval Staff National Swimming Championship at Diete-Spiff Sports Complex, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to her, she is working towards winning more gold medals in forthcoming competitions and represents the country in Olympic Games.
“I am proud of myself and I have chosen to work so hard so that I can win more gold medals in championships.
“My dream is to go to Olympic Games and represent my country, Nigeria and I am working towards that,” Akabi said.
Akabi, who won three gold medals in the last National Youths Games (NYG), at Asaba, Delta State said that she need, to work harder because the task ahead of her is not easy.
“I think I need to train harder, basically work towards my dream and God will help me, I will achieve my dream,” she said.
She equally said that combining academic and sporting activities is not easy but she loves doing it and it has been giving her joy when doing both.
The 13-year-old swimmer said she started participating in swimming activities since 2021 and it has impacted her life in a very good way.
