The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 governorship election in Rivers State, Patrick Tonye Cole, has congratulated the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, over the Supreme Court’s ruling that rejected his objection to the election.
Cole stated this in a video he posted on his social media accounts hours after the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal against the election of Governor Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Supreme Court yesterday dismissed Cole’s appeal for lacking in merit.
Reacting to the development, Cole, said, “Great people of Rivers State, I acknowledge the recent Supreme Court pronouncement of Governor Siminalaiyi Fubara as governor of Rivers State. As a committed democrat, I respect the rule of law and therefore pursued the electoral process diligently.”
According to him: “Our collective goal is peace and I pledge to collaborate with all well-meaning individuals in and out of government to revive Rivers state to a place where commerce thrives”.
Cole also, in a statement, said although the judgment may be disappointing, it is only a temporary setback.
The statement reads, “My dear friends, I didn’t go on this journey alone but did so with you by my side. Without your constant encouragement and hope, who knows where we would have collapsed? Because of you, we fought a good fight.
“The result today may be disappointing but it is only temporary. We have so much to gain moving forward so weep for today only, tomorrow we stand again, hold up our heads, and forge on. Aluta continua.”
The APC governorship candidate had asked the apex court to declare him the winner of the governorship election, alleging irregularities in the election and that Fubara failed to resign as the Accountant General of the State before the election.
