Rivers Police Put Smiles On 200 Late Officers’ Wives’ Faces
As part of deliberate efforts put in place by the police to encourage the wives of late police officers ,the Police Officers’ Wives Association, (POWA), Rivers State Command has put smiles on the faces of over 200 wives of late personnel.
The programme which was tagged “New Year Get Together: Widows Food Basket” was held at the POWA’s Secretariat in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
The event was designed to reach out to late officers wives as well as assure them of continued support by the management of the police in the State .
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairperson of POWA in the State ,Mrs Olufunmilola Disu averred that the programme was organised to put smiles on the faces of the wives of late officers in the command and to tell them that they are being cared for and always remembered .
Mrs Disu ,who is the wife of the state Commissioner of Police urged the widows to always be steadfast in life and be prayerful and should not see their present condition as an end to their lives.
“We have over 200 widows we are reaching out today to encourage and put smiles on their faces. My advice to them is that they should be prayerful and be steadfast and be happy always and for the police officers wives whom their husbands are alive please, support and be helpful to your husbands to succeed,” he stated.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu disclosed that the event was put together to encourage the widows and for them to see that the police did not abandon them. .
He promised to make the event regular and advised wives of the police officers to support their husbands, adding that the work they are doing is too difficult and stressful.
