Police Train Area Commanders, DPOs, Tactical Commanders On Capacity Building

In a bid to strengthen the effectiveness of police personnel in combating crime and enhance their individual capacity, the Rivers State Police Command in collaboration with IHP Consulting Services, has organised a one-day training for its personnel with a view to building their individual efficiency in discharge of their responsibilities.
The one -day training was designed for Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers(DPOs) and other tactical commanders across the command.
The training was aimed at strengthening the individual capacity of the officers towards achieving the collective operational goals through job efficiency and effectiveness at work places.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the training, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu said the training was in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun that all the commands should from the beginning of the year organise training and workshops to build the capacity of their personnel in work places.
CP Disu said in line with the IGP’s directive, “the command today organised a training on effectiveness at workplaces for officers in collaboration with IHP Consulting Services.”
The police boss averred that officers of the command have listened to the facilitators and have recommitted themselves to greater productivity, stressing that the officers have learnt a lot and he was optimistic that they would put the knowledge they have acquired from the lecture to positive use in the discharge of their duties.
According to him, the command has outlined to have five to six training sessions with external trainers in this year outside the in-house training, adding that the aim of the training programmes is to have a more efficient and combatant policing in the State .
“Learning is a continuous exercise. You must continue to learn and read everything you see about policing and that is the only way you can succeed. We are going to witness the impact of the training soonest,” he said.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police used the opportunity to express the command’s gratitude to the lead facilitator for training the officers on probono and urged other spirited individuals and organisations to emulate her to contribute their own quota in the development of the security architecture in the State.
Earlier, the lead facilitator, Dr Mercy Abu had said the training of the officers was designed to make them to become more efficient and accommodating to the community as well as in the improvement of their personal skills.
Some of the topics the officers were drilled on during the one-day training included ‘Emotional Intelligence;’ ‘Effectiveness and Efficiency,’ ‘Time Management’, among others.
