The Ondo State House of Assembly, yesterday, screened and confirmed Dr. Olayide Adelami as the new Deputy Governor of the State.
Dr Adelami’s appearance at the Assembly followed a letter of nomination forwarded by the state governor, Mr Lucky Ayedatiwa, requesting Adelami’s confirmation as his deputy.
Dr Adelami replaces Mr Ayedatiwa, who was the deputy governor of the state until his inauguration as the state governor, following the death of the former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
The newly confirmed deputy governor, who hails from Owo, was a former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly and a former governorship aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2020 governorship election.
Dr Adelami was confirmed at the plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, who stated that the confirmation was sequel to the request of the governor to the house.
He said that the house considered the nominee following the submission of a report by the House Committee on Selection, chaired by the Speaker, Rt Hon. Olamide Oladiji.
During the plenary, the Clerk of the House, Jaiyeola Benjamin, read the letter sent to the House by the State Governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa, for the consideration of the nominee for the vacant position of Deputy Governor.
While submitting the report, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan, recommended the confirmation of the appointment of the nominee, affirming that he had been properly screened.
Akinruntan said that the nominee responded to all questions raised by the Committee in a very eloquent and explicit manner, stating that Adelami had a clear understanding of what the position entails.
According to Akinruntan, the nominee possesses the required academic qualifications and was physically, mentally, and emotionally stable and fit to accomplish the task. He also noted that Adelami had the required experience, charisma, and the much-needed exposure to function effectively.
