The people of Bane Community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, have embarked on the 6th edition of the “I Walk, Jog and Run” keep-fit event with the theme, ”Dum me, I Dum.
The event powered by Project Poetry Bash (PROPOBA) attracted men and women from the community and its environs.
Speaking at the event held recently in the community, the coordinator and organiser of the annual programme, Dr IkpoBari Senenwo expressed satisfaction over the regular turn up for the program and charged the young and old to imbibe a healthy lifestyle driven by a healthy walk out and exercise.
Senenwo stressed that the long lifespan enjoyed by their forefathers was as a result of a routine distance walk to and from their farms and their neighbours.
He told the gathering of what informed his decision in organising the annual event which he said was as a result of his exposure following his stay outside the country where health issues are taken seriously and also where natural means of living are preferred over drugs.
Also speaking, Mr Kenneth NeeBari Nwiue, the youth president of Bane community noted that the innovation has not only benefitted the community health wise but has equally promoted unity among the entire community at large and its negbouring communities .
Nwiue averred that most of the people are always engrossed with work and other things to make ends meet, thereby making it difficult for them to spare a little time for exercise.
In his own speech, Mr Sigbara Neeka appreciated the sponsor, Senenwo for always taking out time to engage the youths with meaningful and human development programmes, and urged him to continue the exercise next year.
