Improving Digital Technology, Pillar Of National Development – Minister
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, says enhancing digital technology is among the key factors of enhancing the nation’s economy.
The Minister disclosed this yesterday during the meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in Kano State.
He said adequate utilisation of digital technology, aimed at improving the nation’s economy was in the front line of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The theme of the 11th National Council Leveraging Digital Technology and Innovation to drive Nigeria’s economic growth and development is apt and in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“It has at its core, a recognition of the power of technology and innovation as enablers of economic growth and development”, Tijani said.
He said globally, digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Block Chain had become veritable tools for fostering innovation, driving economic growth and enhancing social prosperity.
”As nations strive to remain competitive in the digital era, policy makers are increasingly focusing on creating an enabling environment that encourages investment in technology.
“This fosters a culture of innovation and drives productivity by leveraging the manifold benefits of digital technologies across various sectors of the economy”, he said.
The Minister added that the World Bank underscored the significant role of digital technology investment in growing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of nations, stressing that Nigeria had been making strides in this direction.
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State said his administration was according much priority to the development of digital technology echnology.
“On assumption of office, I made sure that the salary payment system was digitised and this has helped immensely in blocking leakages”, Yusuf said.
He noted that his administration had revived the state’s Informatics Institute established by the Kwankwaso administration with the aim of producing qualified people.
Highlights of the event included keynote addresses by the DG NITDA, postmaster general and permanent secretary of the ministry.
