The Elewa-Ikpakwu Family in Rumueheleze Community in Elelenwo in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has empowered several widows and students with empowerment and cash grants to enable them stand on their feet as well as  sustain themselves in order to ward off the current hardship they are currently facing.
For this purpose, the family recently doled out  N30,000  to 15 widows each and another N30,000  to 10 students each.
The gesture was part of events lined up by the family to celebrate the annual Eheleze Day at the community’s town hall.
The grant and empowerment tokens, which came at the behest of the new  Chairman of the Rumueheleze Town Council, Elder Okeekwam Elewa-Ikpakwu, was overwhelmingly applauded by the people of the community as unprecedented.
While presenting the cash to the beneficiaries, Elder Elewa-Ikpakwu promised that his family would sustain the welfare scheme and even make it bigger and better in subsequent years.
He said the gesture had no political undertones, as it purely came from the heart.
According to him, his council has embarked on several projects to give the community a resounding facelift including the fencing of the council premises and maintenance of some facilities, among others.
