Chief Of Naval Staff Swimming Championship Holds In PH

The 11th edition of Chief of Naval Staff National Swimming Championship is set to commence in Port Harcourt tomorrow at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex, Moscow Road Port Harcourt.
Speaking during a press conference yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla said the competition is an annual event to encourage the Nigeria Navy and other agencies in the Aquatic Federation to discover talents in the sports.
According to him, the tournament is basically to discover athletes that will represent the Nation in All African Games, (AAG) coming up this year, adding that he is in line with the President of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support for Sports and physical fitness of the youths of Nigeria.
Vice Admiral Ogalla who was represented by Navy Captain Stanley Umeh expressed joy for bringing the tournament to Port Harcourt stated that Rivers State is the second home of Navy in Nigeria.
“The Chief of Naval staff National Swimming Championship is organise annual event to encourage Nigeria Navy and other agencies to compete in the tournament. It was used to discover fresh talents in the game that will represent the Nation in the All African Games”, Ogalla said.
Also speaking the President Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Mrs Chinoye Aliyu said over 200 athletes are expected to participate in the tournament.
She said the championship would bring the Nigerians together, as it will foster unity among Nigerians.
Mrs Aliyu thanked the Nigeria Navy for hosting the competition annually, adding that the tournament would discover the best in the competition.
“This particular edition will fish out players that will represent the country in Olympic and All African Games coming up this year.
“So by the grace of God we will enjoy the game and get the best swimmers out of the tournament”, Aliyu said.
