Armed Forces Remembrance Activities Kick Off In Rivers, Today
Rivers State Government has said that it is prepared to host an eventful Remembrance Day to honour men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who have dedicated their lives for the territorial integrity of the nation.
A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, in Port Harcourt, yesterday, reconfirmed that the Jumaat Prayers would hold on today at the Central Mosque, Bori Camp.
The statement further indicated that an inter-denominational church service would hold at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church on Sunday, January 14, in Port Harcourt.
Speaking to journalists while on inspection of the Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph, venue of the Armed Forces wreath laying ceremony which is billed to hold on Monday, January 15, nationwide, the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, affirmed that it was expedient that Rivers State Government honours those who were fighting in different theatres of conflict across the country.
He said, “We are celebrating those who are fighting in different theatres of conflict and wars, remembering those who have died in previous wars and those who have been rendered invalid due to their sacrifices for the nation.
“Rivers people should expect our usual superlative performance because everything is set for 15th January to celebrate men and women of the Armed Forces. We invite the good people of Rivers State to be part of the celebration.
He confirmed that the state Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, will inspect the Guards of Honour and perform the wreath laying.
He further informed that the annual Remembrance Day has been renamed, Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD).
