Taskforce Impounds 21 Trucks Of Illegally Mined Coal As Miners Back Effort
A Joint Task Force set up by the Kogi State Government has impounded 21 trucks of Illegally mined coal, amounting to 945 tons.
The licensed and legal Coal Miners in the state said this is in a bid to defeat illegal mining in the country.
The miners have thrown their weight behind the government’s action, saying that the Federal High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Abdul Dogo, granted an interim forfeiture order for the consignment to Federal Government of Nigeria.
They added that 24 licensed mining companies have visited Kogi State to appreciate the State Government and Security Agencies for this unprecedented containment action and make inputs to improve upon the operations of the Joint Taskforce.
In a statement made available to The Tide’s source, the group expressed their support for the action and appreciation to the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minster of Solid Mineral Development, Mr. Dele Alake, the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and the security agencies, especially the State Security Services, Kogi State Command, for taking up the fight against economic saboteurs who have the tendency to breed terrorism for leaving no stone unturned to stop the menace of illegal mining with its negative impact on the economy and security of the country.
They also hoped that the fight will be sustained to the full eradication of illegal mining activities not only in the coal mining sector but in all aspects of mining in Nigeria.
They implored other State Governments and Security Agencies to also take up the fight against illegal mining and economic sabotage in the best interest of the economy and security of Nigeria.
