Refugees Commission Donates Relief Materials To Council

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internationally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has donated some relief materials to Keffi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, to assist Persons of Concern’s host communities.
The Federal Commissioner, NCFRMI, Alhaji Tijani Ahmed, during the donation, said the aim is for the IDPs and host communities to have quality access to health care and education.
Represented by Alhaji Bello Bello, Director, Human Resources Management of the Commission, Ahmed said the donations became necessary considering the immense services the host communities have been given to Persons of Concern.
He said the items which were school materials, health care consumables such as mattresses, drugs, computer systems, chairs among other things would be shared among the host communities within the Council.
According to Ahmed, the Commission is responsible for the assistance and protection of persons of concern within the humanitarian space.
“Basically because of the nature of our operations we do carry along host communities having in mind the implications of them sheltering the persons of concern.
“It is based on this that we are here in Keffi to give out some relief materials, health care items which include drugs and other medicals as well as educational materials”, he said.
Ahmed explained that the Commission’s responsibility was not limited to IDPs only but also to the host communities, adding that IDPs shared in the services their host communities enjoyed.
In his speech, the Local Government Chairman, Muhammad Shehu, while thanking the leadership of the Commission, said the items would be distributed accordingly and effectively managed.
According to Shehu, Keffi is a home of peace, hence the Commission has one of its settlement centres in the Council.
The Tide’s source reports that the items donated were 16 mattresses, pillows, eight customised hospital beds, eight orthopedic mattresses, 14 hospital drawers, 95 school chairs, four tables and four chairs among other items.
