Group Alerts On Plot To Discredit RSG, Fubara
A non-governmental security group, the Ibani Watchdog Initiatives (IWI) has raised an alarm over an alleged plot by some disgruntled individuals to launch another round of coordinated campaign of calumny against the Rivers State Government and the person of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, with the sole aim of discrediting the government and the governor.
The group made this known in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Opuwaribo Jack Tolofari, in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The IWI cautioned those behind the plot to allow the government function effectively in order to deliver the dividends of democracy to Rivers people who overwhelmingly voted for Fubara as governor of the state on March 18, 2023.
The group further warned those trying to score cheap political points to stop distracting the governor, who has not committed any offence against the state and its people in his short time in office.
The statement alleged that the orchestrated campaign of calumny has already started in some parts of the Ogoni axis of the state with a view to spreading deliberate falsehood against the government.
According to Tolofari, “Some of these persons embarking on this wicked plot against the governor are also elected people who should be working together, irrespective of their offices, to ensure the development of Rivers State and the happiness of all. These persons have now clearly shown that they are enemies of the state by embarking on such shameful act of destruction of the unity that binds us.
“At a time like this in the life of our state, what is required is a concerted action by men and women of goodwill who will stand for the unity, peace and progress of our state instead of struggling to score cheap political points by ensuring that Rivers State remains in crisis and without any development for the people”.
While suing for peace and urging the people to remain calm, the group called on the people of Rivers State to shun these satanic messengers who do not mean well for our people, noting that the power of light over darkness will remain paramount to those who believe and fear God.
