The Rivers State Judiciary has berated the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Council, Hon Chidi Lloyd, over alleged derogatory statements, persistent insinuation and name dropping against the State Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi.
Lloyd was said to have wrongly accused the Chief Judge of releasing a cultist, Waburuoke Wosu aka ‘Abinto’, an indigine of Emohua community, whom the chairman had declared wanted for criminal activities, from the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.
The Chief Registrar of the State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi, at a media briefing in Port Harcourt, last Friday, said that the statement made by the Emohua council chairman was false, misleading, disrespectful to the office of the State Chief Judge and can be cited for contempt.
According to him, it was wrong for Lloyd to have alleged that Woburuoke Wosu aka ‘Abionto’ was among those granted pardon by the Chief Judge during the gaol delivery in June this year when he had not confirmed the authentication of what he wanted to send out to the public space.
The Chief Registrar said that from the list of records and proceedings of the gaol delivery exercise carried out by the Judiciary from May 2021 till date, the name of Woburuoke Wosu was not listed.
Ihua-Maduenyi said it was worrisome that Lloyd kept on mentioning the name of the Chief Judge on issues concerning insecurity in Emohua and urged him to desist to avoid being charged for contempt.
“I want to restate that the response of Hon Chidi Lloyd is total false, misleading and fabricated to misguide the general public and should be disregarded.
“I, therefore, use this medium to advise Hon Chidi Lloyd to desist from mentioning and calling the name of the State Chief judge over the issues concerning the security of the local government area and the
state judiciary was not against Lloyd fighting against insecurity in his local government area”, he stated.
Meanwhile, the lawyer to the suspected cultist, Barr. John Wori, has confirmed that his client was not freed during a jail delivery exercise but he was discharged and acquitted in a case involving his family on June 13, 2023 by Justice I.R Minakiri of the State High Court.
The lawyer said it was a case of grievous bodily harm between his uncle and his father.
