Police operatives attached to the Ahoada Police Station in Rivers State have killed two suspected cultists in Odiemerenyi Community in Ahoada East Local Council of the State.
Confirming the development, spokesperson for the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the operatives received a distress call at about 1:00a.m. on Sunday morning, that some suspected cultists loyal to the wanted David Gift, a.k.a 2Baba, invaded the Community in search of suspected police informants.
Iringe-Koko said the Police Division on receipt of the information swung into action and mobilised with other tactical units to the scene.
She explained that on getting to the community, the hoodlums, who, unfortunately had killed five indigenes before police arrival, opened fire on sighting the officers.
“The hoodlums were, however, overpowered by the superior firepower of the police as two of the suspected cultists were fatally wounded”, she said.
Iringe-Koko noted that the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, had ordered the Ahoada Police Division and other tactical units to redouble efforts to ensure David Gift and other fleeing suspects are arrested.
“The CP has called on residents of the community and other communities in Ahoada East to go about their legitimate businesses as adequate security are in place to counter any security challenges that may be instigated by criminal elements.
“He also condoled with the families of those who lost their lives in the attack”, she added.
