Following the ruling of Justice Kingsley Chuku of the Rivers State High Court dismissing the N500 million defamatory suit against the Paramount Ruler of Elele community, Eze Okey Okah for lacking in merit over a comment made three years ago during an alleged stampede that claimed the lives of over three people in the community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, the supporters of the monarch have hailed the ruling.
The Eze Okah support group in a swift reaction recently celebrated the ruling in grand style with 21 local gun salute, as they gathered at the traditional ruler’s family compound singing and dancing over what they described as a milestone victory.
In his reaction, one of the leaders of the group, Prince Ajoku said the joy of the people knew no bounds, and commended the court ruling in favour of the traditional ruler, saying it has demonstrated the adage that the court remains the last hope of the common man.
“This is victory not only for Eze Okah and his support group, but it is also a victory for the Elele people. We give kudos to the judiciary for upholding the truth and dispensing justice not minding who is involved. This milestone victory is in the best interest of the people and we remain grateful to the judiciary for standing on the truth. The winner has been peaceful in his disposition, upright and just. As we can see, it has paid off through the prayers of everyone he has touched positively. The ruling has affirmed the will of God in the affairs of Elele and His son, Eze Okah whose immense contributions to the development of Elele community and beyond can never be in doubt. We have no regrets whatsoever in supporting him and what is just. Hence, we enjoin any one aggrieved to join hands with the traditional ruler to move the community forward”, he said.
