Commissioner Advises Youth To Venture Into Sports
Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Joseph Johnson has advised youth in Nigeria especially in the State chose sports as a career.
He stated that in recent times sports development in the State is currently on expansion following the inclusion of other sporting activities.
Hon. Johnson said this in an interview with journalists, at the novelty match between Baptist High School( BHS) Old Boys and Stella Maris College(SMC), Old Boys in Port Harcourt, to mark the 75th anniversary of BHS, at Sharks Football Stadium, on Wednesday.
According to him, sports is one of the fastest ways to empower youths and many have made it through sports.
” I can tell you that the State government is expanding sports developing holistically unlike before when you hear only football or ministry of football.
“Even now I hear there is canoeing now according to the sports commissioner Barrister Christopher Green. Youth should venture into sports because many have made it through sports to help themselves and family” Hon Johnson said.
Speaking the National President of Baptist High School Old Students Association, Arc. Opiribo West, call for a coalition of all old students in the State using the Old students associations as an instrument to foster unity, peace and development of Alma Mata.
He equally said the novelty match was to cement the existing relationship between the two schools back in the days.
“This novelty game was one of the activities lined up to mark the 75th of BHS, Port Harcourt. We decided to play St. Maris College to cement the relationship between the two schools.
“Apart from that there should be a coalition of old students association to foster peace, unity and development of Alma Mata” He said.
