Senate Retreat: Banigo Seeks Transparency, Accountability In Health Sector
A two-day Strategic Retreat for Principal Officers of the Senate Committee on Health in the 10th National Assembly ended yesterday in Abuja with a call for transparency and accountability in the health sector.
Declaring open the retreat on Monday, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, explained that the programme was designed to strengthen the interface between the Legislature and the Executive, like MDAs, health institutions, donor agencies as well as development partners.
Banigo promised that under her watch, her committee would strive for accountability, transparency and a high sense of responsibility in their oversight functions.
She urged participants and stakeholders at the retreat to make good use of the wealth of experience of the facilitators in order to achieve set goals.
“I, therefore, urge us all to ensure that all hands are on deck towards the realisation of the health sector of our dream. Let’s make the best of the various erudite facilitators in our midst while this retreat lasts”, she declared.
The senator, who represents Rivers West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, disclosed that the theme of the retreat: “Setting A Legislative Health Agenda Towards Strengthening Nigeria’s Primary Health Care System and Health Institution for Universal Health Coverage”, would holistically examine issues relating to the health sectors.
