The contention over the authentic leadership of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) in Rivers State is still lingering as the existing state executive of the party has faulted the recent composition of a  caretaker committee  for the party.
A statement signed by Mr Bright Idornata, state Publicity Secretary of the existing exco of the party, has urged members of the NNPP in the State and the general public to discountenance the new exco led by Mr Ovie Henry.
The statement which was made available to newsmen urged members of the party in Rivers State,  not to be deceived to give in to rumours being carried out by one Mr Ovie Henry and his team.
The statement which reads in part stated that, “It’s important to know that we, the elected and serving state party executives ably led by our chairman, Hon. Richard Harry, have not exhausted our four years mandate.”
“On this premise, we call for calm among members of our great party. Furthermore, we also call on the said Delta State-based Henry Ovie to stop parading himself as the care taker chairman of Rivers State chapter.”
The statement alleged plan by Mr Henry Ovie and his team to cause further crisis in the party that may result in the breach of public peace and order, stating that drastic actions will be taken to nip their plans and save the party from disarray.
”We gathered from reliable sources that their aim is to create serious mayhem which will breach the peace of our peaceful Rivers State and scatter party faithful.”
It would be recalled that a five-man Caretaker Committee, led by Mr Henry Ovie was recently constituted in Rivers State.
The formation of a caretaker committee for the party in Rivers State, according to Mr Ovie, was sequel to the crisis rocking the party at the national level which culminated in the purported  dissolution of the existing state executive of party.
