The Head coach of Amaka FA of Port Harcourt, Tonye Omualabo, has stated that lack of competitions in Rivers State has adversely affected the growth of grassroots footbalI and called for more competitions.
According to him, grassroots football competitions help to discover talents among the young ones, adding thàt if there are no competitions it would be difficult to catch them young.
Omuolabo said this at the weekend in an exclusive interview with Tidesports at the ongoing K O Baba Under 15 football competitions at St Andrews Primary School field Mile 1 Diobu Port Harcourt.
He used the medium to commend Kobaba Johnson for sponsoring the competition, saying that the youth have missed tournament like this nature over the years.
“First of all I want to thank K O Baba for sponsoring competition like this because this is what was lacking at grassroots.
“Today look at the crowd that came out to watch the game it was unprecedented I think spectators looking at it are up to 2000 or 3000 that was a welcome development.
“This is a good idea I commend Johnson because the competition will engage the children meaningfully and take them off from the streets. I urge other stakeholders to emulate K O Baba”, Omualabo said.
He further praised the organisers for doing a thorough job during the screening process and advised them to improve in next edition.
