Nwaogu said that with the award of various development projects contracts, especially the Port Harcourt Ring Road project, fixing of some sections of the long-abandoned East-West road, as well as the promotion of civil servants and the palliative buses to help cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal on the people, as it affects transportation difficulties in the state.
The LG boss lauded the Governor and other leaders for attaining pro-people development heights within the life span of this dispensation in terms of infrastructural initiatives and execution, adding that they all are expected to provide the promised dividends of democracy to the masses.
On the consolidation agenda of the governor, Hon. Nwaogu urged Rivers people to ensure that they repeat the unflinching loyalty and support given to the immediate past administration in the state to the Sir Fubara-led government, to enable him and his team of technocrats achieve success for the betterment of all and sundry in the state.
Meanwhile, Hon. Okechukwu Akara Nwaogu has stressed the need for the creation of more state constituencies in Rivers State for effective representation and even distribution of dividends of democracy.
According to him, the existing 319 political wards have become inadequate in the face of the political advancement of the state and therefore called for the creation of more electoral constituencies to match the increased population.
“Subject to the provision of Sections 91 and 113 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shall divide every state in the Federation into such a number of state constituencies within the boundaries of each state constituency and shall be such as would represent the number of inhabitants”, he said.
The Council boss emphasized that the number of Federal Constituencies when compared with the current figures at the moment was a clear indication of non compliance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
