PH-Based Comedian Calls For Teenage Football Tournaments

A Port Harcourt based comedian Kobaba Johnson has said that organising football tournaments among teenagers is a way to take them out of the Streets.
According to him, his intention to organise the football competition was to enable young footballers in the State to showcase their talents, adding that he is doing a project among the youth that is basically for comedians, dancers and drummers called Pita-akwa.
Johnson who is popularly called K O Baba said this on Sunday in an exclusive interview with Tidesports shortly after the end of the opening match of the maiden edition of K O Baba under 15 football tournaments at St. Andrews Primary School field in Mile one Diobu Port Harcourt.
He explained that he decided to sponsor the tournament because he believed that teenagers were not opportune as the adults.
“This is holidays period is one of the best times to encourage the young ones so that they cannot move around the streets. This is the maiden edition of this tournament.
“I am doing a project call Pita-akwa among the teenagers, I have done it for comedians, dancers, drummers and this is time for young footballers in the State to compete also.
“I think this competition will engage them and take them out of crime.
“I want to focus on these teenagers because they are not getting the opportunity as the adults.
“I want to spread the sum of one million naira (N1, 000,000.00), on these teenagers who are in different football academies in the State.
“I think this money will go a long way to help the teams and that is why I decided to sponsor the tournament” Johnson stated.
He further explained that 16 teams registered for the competition and it of free registration, adding that the winner of the competition will go home with the sum N500 and 000 the second with N250, 000. While the runner up will get the sum of N150, 000.
He also said that the best team of the competition will go home with N50, 000. The best goalkeeper N50, 000 and the Most Valuable Player also with the sum of N50,000.
He used the medium to call fans within the area to come out en mass to encourage these teenagers within the period of the competition.
