Commissioner Assures NGOs Of Support
The Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs has expressed its willingness to partner with all relevant organisations involved in according women their due positions in the Society.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Roseline Apawari Uranta, midweek, gave the assurance when the leadership of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Rivers State Branch, led by its Chairperson, Barrister Adata Bio-Briggs, paid her a courtesy visit in her office.
Uranta singled out FIDA as the topmost Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that plays key roles in checking the abuse of women and girls.
Noting that the Ministry would always support and cooperate with FIDA to reduce cases of abuse of women and the girl child, the Commissioner called on FIDA to take advantage of the National Dashboard to keep accurate record of cases bordering on genda-base issues.
Dr Uranta thanked FIDA for the visit and called on the leadership to always call on the Ministry whenever it was necessary for interaction to promote genda-based activities.
Earlier in her speech, the State Chairperson of FIDA, Mrs Adata Bio-Briggs, disclosed that the Federation had handled over 1000 cases involving abuse of women and children, with related cases pending in various courts.
She hinted that a good number of the cases have been concluded while others are at various stages.
The FIDA boss said the Organisation was carrying out a number of training programmes to educate volunteers who will stand as gatekeepers in the fight against violence against women and children.
