Reps Move To Settle Falcons’ Bonuses, Allowances Rift

The House of Representatives on Wednesday waded in to stop the Super Falcons from boycotting the Women’s World Cup tournament.
Adopting a motion initiated by Mr Olumide Osoba, at the plenary presided by Speaker Tajudeen Abass, the House set up an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the dispute between the Super Falcons and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) .
The House pledged to propose necessary reforms to prevent the planned protest and boycott of the Nigeria Female Football team at the Women’s World Cup also to prevent future occurrences.
The lawmakers urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay match bonuses and allowances to the Super Falcons.
The House therefore summonned the NFF and relevant stakeholders to appear before the Adhoc Committee to provide a detailed report on the steps taken to resolve the dispute and ensure the smooth participation of the Super Falcons in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Osoba stressed the need by the House to wade into the issue as the likely boycott of the event would not only be embarrassing but have negative impact on Nigeria’s reputation.
He noted that it is disheartening to witness the neglect and mistreatment of athletes which undermines their morale and tarnishes the nation’s reputation.
