Police Burst Car Snatching, Child Traffic Syndicate
The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested a syndicate that snatches cars along Ada George area of the city.
Among the criminal gang was a Police Corporal called Bright Okey, who joins the gang during operations.
Making public the arrest of the gang, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said that the gang was caught when they went to snatch a Toyota Corolla in Ada-George axis and were intercepted by men of C41 Intelligence Unit .
The Police Officer who was caught with a single barrel gun has now been dismissed.
The police officer, Bright Okey told newsmen that they went to rob at Ada George, after successfully snatching a vehicle and later had a collision in their bid to escape, but was intercepted by the Police and later transferred to Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit .
Meanwhile,the Police has paraded seven suspected child traffickers with two-week old baby and three-year old child rescued from them.
The Police spokeswoman said the father of the children, Michael Charles sold his three children for N700,000, and N350,000 respectively, with the help of a Doctor, Nelson Bernard.
Charles in an interview with journalists said he was intercepted by OSPAC in his community, Omerelu in Ikwerre Local Government Area, when he was about selling his new born baby.
He disclosed that he was handed over to Elele Police Division from where he was transferred to the CP Monitoring Unit.
On his part, Dr Nelson Bernard accepted committing the crime, adding that one of the children was sold for N1.5 million but he gave the father of the child, N350,000.00 and kept over one million naira for himself for the job he did for him.
In the meantime, the mother in-law of Mr Charles explained to newsmen that before now, the suspect had been lying to her that her grand children died after delivery, which did not go down well with her.
She said the suspect, Charles was taking advantage of her daughter, his wife, who is deaf and dumb to perpetrate the act of selling the wife’s children upon delivery.
