Monarch Seeks Legal Backing For Hunters, Forest Reserve Association

The Oneh Eh/Paramount Ruler of Alesa kingdom in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRH Emperor J D Nkpe, has called for a legal backing to the newly formed  Hunters and Forest Reserve Association of Nigeria.
Nkpe said this in an interview with The Tide weekend in Port Harcourt.
The monarch who is a patron of the Association also called for the regulation of the activities of hunters and loggers  in the country
He said it is unnatural and wicked to kill young animals especially the female ones, and logging of  premature woods
The monarch also decried the gradual decline of the Nigerian ecosystem.
He said forest holds a lot of benefits to the sustenance of the environment and listed some of them to include preservation of the environment from windstorm, as well act as a reservoir for herbal medicine.
Nkpe said giving legal recognition to the Association will be helpful to the country, especially in the area of insecurity.
According to him, hunters have at several occasions assisted the security agencies in the rescue of victims of kidnappers.
Meanwhile, the Alesa Monarch has called for more forest reserves and parks in the country.
He said the parks have the potential to attract tourists across the world, adding that the establishment of more parks in the country will bring more tourists into the country.
Nkpe also called on the government of Rivers State to rehabilitate the Port Harcourt Zoo while the several beaches across the state should be developed to attract tourists..
“Rivers State Government should survey these beaches and developed them” and added that if this is done,oil will no longer be the main stay of the state economy,” Nkpe said.
He said the tourism sector will create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youths of the state.
