‘Construction Of Traditional Rulers’ Secretariat, Obedience To Constitution’
The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council of Rivers State, Engr. Dr. Samuel Osorochi Nwanosike has stated that the construction of the secretariat for Government Recognised Traditional Rulers of Ikwerre Local Government Area, was in compliance with the Constitution of Nigeria.
Nwanosike stated this during the flag-off ceremony of the project at Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Monday.
“In obedience to the constitution of Nigeria that made it clear that members of government recognised traditional councils, are members of the local governments council, Rivers State House of Assembly Traditional Council Law, No. 14, is explicit on that”, he said.
He said, the project upon completion will not only enable the traditional rulers have offices in Port Harcourt, headed by the State Chairman, but will also avail them the opportunity to have various local Government Recognised Traditional Rulers Councils Chairmen.
“So by the Constitution of Nigeria, most important, that they must have a secretariat to operate from”, he said.
The Ikwerre Council boss further charged the contractor handling the project to deliver within sixty days.
“But what we want is an edifice that is of modern standard, fully equipped with air conditioner so that our fathers can be calm and relaxed to manage the twelve communities and the thirteen wards of Ikwerre Local Government”, he said.
Stressing the importance of managing local communities in growing the country, Nwanosike opined that Nigeria must be built from the family to community.
To get things right in the Country, he said there must be effort to build community to ward, ward to LGA, LGA to state, state to zone, and zone to the nation.
He thanked God Almighty, the former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and the security agents for the victory his administration recorded in the fight against insecurity and illegal oil bunkery activities.
On the flip side, he has promised on behalf of Ikwerre LGA of rewarding the Ikwerre-born hotel worker who returned $70,000 (N59, 000,000.00) to a customer in Lagos with the sum of N2,000.000.00, and added that her act in this hard time showed that Ikwerre people are God-fearing, humble, good to hire, here to serve, not greedy and not thieves.
While performing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the centre, the Rivers State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Charles Amadi, represented by the Director of Administration in the ministry, Mr. Boma Wakama, commended the Ikwerre LGA Chairman for concretising inter-governmental development as he nicknamed him ‘Mr. Junior Project’.
Amadi also praised the KELGA Boss for setting the pace for other local government chairmen in the State to emulate.
In their project description, the Ikwerre LGA’s Supervisor for Works, Mr. Chidi Opara, and the Chief Public Works Officer, Hon. Charles Wobodo, averred that the building would have offices, standby generator, perimeter fence and other facilities when completed.
Speaking on behalf of the Government Recognised Traditional Rulers of Ikwerre LGA, the Chairman, His Royal Majesty, King Blessing Wagor, Nyenwe Eli Isiokpo Ancient Kingdom and Wagidi 40th, stated that the traditional rulers were proud of Nwanosike for always making them happy and proud.
In their solidarity speeches, the member representing Ikwerre Constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Prince Lemchi Nyeche, JP, a Rivers State Civil Service Commissioner, Sir Eze Mike Elechi, JP, the Leader of Ikwerre Legislative Assembly, Hon. Nwobuisi Chikwe-Tasie, and the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chiefs and Elders Forum in Ikwerre LGA, Chief Christopher Amadi, adjudged Dr. Nwanosike as the best Chairman Ikwerre LGA has ever had.
