Traders Applaud DPO For Fighting Crime
Traders at the Oil Mill Market, Rumuokwurusi in Obio/ Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State and the new Rumuokwurusi Elimgbu Flyover, have commended the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) of Elimgbu Police Station, SP Mary Umana over the way and manner she is discharging her duties to curb criminality within the area.
They told newsmen in separate interviews in Port Harcourt that the DPO deserves a pat on the back due to her exploits in fighting crime.
They posited that the area and the adjoining surroundings are now calm following the recent posting of the DPO to the area, stressing that the Oil Mill Market, before now, used to be a place where bad boys and criminal elements had a field day by operating freely, but noted that since the arrival of the new DPO, the inhabitants of the area have been having a respite, as traders are now carrying out their businesses without molestation.
According to them, “customers can confidently come to patronise us without harassment. It is now that the police are doing their work. We are happy that some of these boys worrying us have been arrested by the police and treated accordingly. Since the arrival of the new DPO, snatching of bags, rape, phone theft and other criminal activities have reduced. We give kudos to the new DPO”.
A trader at the new Elimgbu Flyover, who pleaded anonymity commended the efforts of the police in going after the criminal elements, saying, “ We noticed that no one is complaining of theft for now. This axis has remained calm since the woman arrived. If the police continue this way, Nigeria will be a better place. What is happening is a big relief to us and we pray that it should be sustained.”
Anyone behind this deserves commendation. We doing business here can tell the story better. No day passes without complaints of theft. Shops are broken into while armed robbers dispossess people of their hard- earned money. We have had enough of this evil.I am happy that it is now becoming a thing of the past, courtesy of the new DPO. I have said it often that if the police do their work properly, these bad elements would be on the run. Now that we have someone who knows her onions, have we not seen results?”
