The Passport Control Officer, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Rivers State Command, DCI Audi Musa Maisudan, has said its digital passport system is in order and in line with international best practices.
Maisudan, who stated this in an exclusive chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt recently, said passport capturing and collection under his watch must be without stress irrespective of the work preasure associated with it.
“I am posted to Rivers State because of Rivers people. It is my joy to treat people fairly. It is also timely”, he said.
Part of the work plans to achieve his target, he said, is to ensure a free relationship between him and staff of the unit.
He said he carries out routine checks on the staff and their offices to ensure that challenges are not sighted anywhere.
According to him, the work methodology so applied has helped to resolve an old issue he inherited from the office.
“I have cleared over 600 files in the office within one month. I motivate the staff. Public relationship helps us to do the work with ease.
I make sure that everyone’s is happy”, he said.
About the digital passport system, he said it is running effectively with zero challenge.
He also called on passport applicants not to panic, saying that the unit has enough booklets.
On passport issuance, he informed that third party with an authority letter and certified means of identification can now collect passport on behalf of the owner/applicant.
Another limb of the decision he clarified, was to resolve the issue of unclaimed piles of passport as was noticed in the office sometime ago.
It would be recalled that the Passport Unit of the NIS, Port Harcourt, around November last year, revealed that about 5,000 passports were yet to be collected by the applicants from their office.
