The first son of Late Prof Nimi Dimkpa Briggs, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Architect Ninah Briggs, has eulogised his deceased father, saying, the impact of his life and services to humanity was incredible.
Briggs, who made the remarks during the burial ceremony of his father in Abonnema Town last Saturday said the former Vice Chancellor lived a life worthy of emulation and equally positively touched people’s lives while alive.
He further indicated that the large crowd of people from all walks of life, who attended his father’s funeral was eloquent testimony that he impacted positively on humanity, stressing that he lacked words to thank all those who graced the funeral in spite of their busy schedules.
“It is a validation of the person my dad was and being his only son, he shielded me from his true size and stature. My dad remained a true friend whose compassion would be greatly missed.I wholeheartedly thank everyone for supporting us”, he said, adding that the death of his father had created a huge vacuum that is too difficult to fill.
According to him, the late Professor was a hero who impacted so many lives, as only God would give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss of his demise.
On her part, the second daughter of the erudite scholar, Boma Briggs said her father left no stone unturned in rendering services to humanity, which she noted, he did so in an excellent manner.
She indicated that the d’ creme d’la creme of the society who attended the funeral was a clear indication that her father was incredible in his race of life and truly conquered all, and assured that the family which left behind would keep the flag flying.
The funeral service which took place at St Paul’s Nyemoni Lutheran Church, Abonnema was attended by people from all over the world amid what could aptly be described as showers of blessing.
In his sermon, Most Rev Nimi Benson- John urged the bereaved family members to keep faith alive and always trust in God as their late father was born into a Christian family.
He described the late Prof Nimi Briggs as a wonderful gentleman just like his own late father, who he said lived a good life and helped others, stressing that the death of the former Vice Chancellor was a great loss to the world.
According to him, the late Prof was a great pillar to the propagation of the gospel to win souls for Christ.
He advised Christians to be mindful because the end is near.
